All of the cultural and musical influences in my music are revealed as well playing all the favourite hit songs that consolidated my career as a singer/songwriter. Johnny Clegg brings the highly acclaimed A South African Story to the Royal Albert Hall. This story covers Johnny’s life through his music, and is an inspiring and uplifting journey. Experience the thrill of music and dance with Johnny Clegg.

Johnny Clegg is a dancer, anthropologist, singer, songwriter, academic, activist and French knight. Whilst all of these tags are fitting, none of them can accurately describe the energetic, passionate human being who has become one of South Africa's greatest musical exports. He has campaigned against the injustice of apartheid South Africa and been instrumental in putting the new South Africa on the map as a cultural ambassador. Clegg is an icon of South African music.

During the last three decades making anthemic hits, Johnny has proved himself to be an outstanding musical ambassador for his country and is known for his energetic stage performances. By combining African music structures with Celtic folk music and international rock sounds, Johnny pioneered a new and unique sound, establishing himself as South Africa’s biggest musical export. From Europe to the States, from Australia to Potchefstroom and London, audiences in sold out venues have danced to Cruel, Crazy Beautiful World, Scatterlings of Africa, I Call Your Name, Impi, Great Heart, and African Sky Blue.

"Legendary South African musician Johnny Clegg joined Martin Bester Drive on Thursday 31 Oct 2013, and the team had a surprise waiting for him. MBD got hold of Jesse Clegg, Johnny's son, whom is also a performing South African musician, who was gigging in New York at the time, and got him to record one of Johnny Clegg's most famous songs - 'Great Heart' - and Johnny's response was nothing short of tear-jerking."

Johnny Clegg – Celebrating 30 years Johnny Clegg
«Celebrating 30 years Johnny Clegg»: Am 13. November im… Volkshaus! Weil’s kleiner viel schöner ist.

06.12.2013 Statement by Johnny Clegg on the passing of Mr Nelson Mandela

My family and I send our condolences to all the Mandela family members on the passing of Tata.
We also share with every South African as well as the global community our sense of loss and sadness at his passing.
Nelson Mandela will always define a deep part of what and who we are as individuals and as a nation. It is difficult to separate the great journey to secure a democratic and non-racial... South Africa from his personal qualities and character. For all South Africans he was the face and form of that voyage, particularly in the crucial decade of 1990 – 2000.
In the defining and tempestuous years of 1990 through to April 27th 1994, his leadership was never overwhelmed by events, even in the darkest hours of Boipatong, the assassination of Chris Hani and other atrocities that were meant to derail the negotiations . When at times we felt doubt or fear, his strong resonant voice rolled out over the radio or TV and, like a tide going out, our reservations about the future receded.
We took immense nourishment and succor from his fearless and positive attitude. His charismatic openness, straight aim, sense of humour , direct but respectful communication with his opponents was a singularly rare quality in an environment of racist and right wing demagoguery. A turmoiled South Africa needed to feel that the Ship of State, riding the storm, was in good hands and Madiba never gave us cause to doubt that the storm would pass and the country would be free. It is the qualities of tolerance and forgiveness however which stand out as his lasting legacy as well as the way he used these to unite the country both during and after his presidency.
With all our fellow south Africans we acknowledge with deep gratitude the debt we owe to this humble and great statesman from Qunu, who bequeathed to us this great country of promise. Today, although we grieve, we also proudly rejoice in his remarkable life, which we were privileged to share through extraordinary times.
Hamba Kahle Tata!
Johnny Clegg and Family
