Johnny Clegg

http://johnnyclegg.stuff.by/

"Here is some stuff to chew on...
If you have a fast connection, you can go to some of the not-so-legal download sites (not that I would do such a thing) and find some great Clegg stuff. A friend... yeh... a friend of mine... thats it... found some great video stuff of Clegg online. One was a very big file featuring Clegg in concert in a smaller club in Germany. Very cool. Another showed the making of the music from the Jane Goodall movie.
Very interesting to see Johnny at work in a studio and watch how he and the composer worked together on this project. You can legally get this video as an extra on the Jane Goodall Wild Chimpanzees DVD. Its a small extra but fun to see. Rent it at your local video store to check it out." go to http://www.cheza.ca/music_cassette.htm  Feel free to download it. it's called White Zulu
"Been meaning to do this for sometime--in the early day's of my band Cheza we recorded a "tribute" song to Johnny Clegg. It was never released on CD and I've finally got around to making an MP3 of it.  A bit dated to my ear now and the production is a bit low but not without some energy."

SAB tugs at the world's heartstrings with new commercial, 13.07.2004

South African Breweries epic new ad to highlight South Africa's role in the growth of the SAB brand globally, was produced by Publicis. It is creatively stunning and a brilliant idea brought to screen. Let us know what you think - Biz-community.com brings you the visuals to download to see for yourself
Marc Spriestersbach from Publicis gave Biz-community some interesting facts on the logistics involved behind the making of the new SAB ad. To say that it was a proper tug-of-war is highlighted by the fact that the rope, used in this advertisement was 500m long. Of course the 800 employees used for the shoot had to eat and three tons of fresh fruit and 2000 eggs were consumed during the making of the new ad.
It also took quite a bit of commitment from SAB employees to get this ad filmed. Some had to leave at 02h00 to be on set at 06h00. The ad was shot in five different locations: Cape Nature Reserve, Somerset West, Cape Point, Harrismith, Pudtidichaba, and Witsies Hoek in the Drakensberg. And as regards the film used for this epic - 8.7 kilometers of filmstock was used! Another 650 hours were spent on editing.
Hazel van Jaarsveld, TV and Radio producer at Publicis, said that it was one of the smoothest running commercials that she has worked on in her 27 years experience. The Executive Creative Director was Kady Winetzki, Art Director, Steve Clayton; Copywriter, Giovanni Malletti; and producer, Hazel Van Jaarsveld.

What music videos are available?

Videos

2003: Johnny Clegg With Savuka And Juluka - Live And More (DVD)

1994: In certain European countries, a PAL tape of "In My African Dream: The best of Johnny Clegg and Savuka" (EMI/PMI 1994; 55m) was (is?) available, with 13 companion videos to the "African Dream" CD. One or two Canadian fans also found it in an NTSC version.

1990: "Viva Mandela!" was commissioned by The Canon Collins Trust and released in the UK by Castle Hendring, HEN2228 (~120m). It's a compilation of news items, narration etc. telling Mandela's story, much of it with musical background. Roughly two and a half minutes of Savuka's "One (Hu)Man One Vote" (the studio release) is used to accompany footage of the 1989 tricameral elections, and includes a few inserts of live Savuka footage (probably from official videos).

1988: A French videotape entitled "Johnny Clegg & Savuka. Les clips de ses plus grands succes" (EMI/PMI 1988; 35m; SECAM-F) is out of print.

1988: Two songs ("Siyayilanda" and "Asimbonanga") are performed on the "Frontline Music Festival/Benefit Concert for UNICEF" video (Kodak 1988). Apparently out of print.

1989: Sipho Mchunu has a few numbers on the official release, "The Indestructible Beat of Soweto" released in the UK by Island, IVA030. This was from the 1989 BBC tv show, "Rhythms of the World".

1988: On the video "Human Rights Now! The Video", about the 1988 Amnesty International tour undertaken by Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel etc., there's a couple of minutes of Savuka as the support act in Abidjan.

1979: The video Rhythm of Resistance (Shanachie, 1979; SH-1204; ~48m) contains a relatively long segment on Sipho Mchunu's life, with a bit of Johnny Clegg as well, very early in their careers. Contains short footage of a duo performance in which Clegg is playing mouth bow and Mchunu is doing guitar and vocals. Currently available from Multicultural Media, or 1-800-550-9675 (orders); 1-802-223-1294 (other); RR3, Box 6655, Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641 USA.
